Antique Cast Iron Muskrat Gopher Leg Hold Trap With Chain Rustic Decor

Antique Cast Iron Muskrat Gopher Leg Hold Trap With Chain Rustic Decor

$10.00

Antique cast iron muskrat gopher leg hold trap with original chain and ring featuring heavy aged patina and classic spring loaded mechanism. This authentic early trapping relic serves as a striking rustic farmhouse decor piece or historical collectible display item.

This pre-owned trap shows significant surface rust, oxidation, and wear consistent with long term outdoor use and storage. The cast iron body retains strong structural integrity with visible pitting and corrosion throughout. The attached chain and ring are intact and heavily patinated. The trigger plate, jaws, and spring assembly appear complete; however, this item is being sold strictly as a vintage collectible and decor display piece due to age and condition.

Constructed of solid cast iron with forged chain links, this smaller size trap is typical of muskrat and gopher trapping equipment used in agricultural and fur trade settings. The design includes curved jaws, central pressure plate trigger, and tension spring mechanism common in early to mid twentieth century trap manufacturing.

Muskrat and gopher traps were widely used by farmers and trappers for pest control and fur harvesting, becoming standard equipment throughout rural North America in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Today, surviving examples are collected for their historical value and rustic industrial character rather than active use.

This piece appeals to antique tool collectors, farm and ranch history enthusiasts, cabin or lodge decorators, and collectors of early American trapping equipment. Please review photos carefully as they form part of the condition description and overall representation.

Did You Know? Muskrat pelts were once a significant part of the North American fur trade and were commonly used in coat and hat production during the early 1900s.
