1967 Bulova Accutron Astronaut M7 GMT 214 Stainless Steel Watch Tuning Fork Movement - Works Rare

$1,000.00

Vintage 1967 Bulova Accutron Astronaut M7 GMT stainless steel watch featuring the legendary 214 tuning fork movement, original black dial, and rotating 24-hour bezel. A highly sought-after space-age electronic timepiece known for its smooth sweep seconds hand and distinctive humming movement.

This watch is pre-owned and currently functioning, with the tuning fork movement actively running. The caseback is marked Bulova, Waterproof, Patented, Stainless Steel, and stamped D26235 with M7 date code confirming 1967 production. Visible wear includes scratches on the crystal, bezel wear, and surface scratches consistent with age and use. The stainless steel bracelet features the Bulova tuning fork logo clasp and shows normal vintage wear.

The black dial is marked “Bulova Accutron” and “Astronaut,” with luminous triangular hour markers, matching hands, and a two-tone 24-hour rotating bezel for GMT tracking. The Accutron Caliber 214 movement uses a 360 Hz tuning fork rather than a traditional balance wheel, producing a continuous sweep seconds motion instead of a ticking action.

Introduced during the height of the space race, the Accutron became the world’s first fully electronic watch and was used in aerospace instrumentation and worn by pilots. The Astronaut model, with its GMT functionality and tool-watch design, remains one of the most desirable and collectible Accutron variants.

Collectors value this model for its transitional technology bridging mechanical and quartz eras, short production window, military and space-age associations, and the technical complexity of its movement. Working examples with original components continue to command strong interest among horology enthusiasts.

Did You Know? The Accutron’s tuning fork vibrates at 360 times per second, making it one of the most accurate watches available before quartz technology took over in the 1970s.
